Spotlight on Craig Mosher's Home

"Who can resist telling the story of his new yurt?" Well, Craig Mosher is this month's spotlight home feature. He teaches social work at a small liberal arts college in Iowa. He has four children, five grandchildren and enjoys canoeing, birding, hiking, photography and woodworking. Many years ago, he worked as a carpenter, which came in handy when building his 24' Diameter round home with 12' tall walls and a loft area.

"The first time I saw the office in Eugene, I felt at peace in the round, open, light space. I also wanted an energy efficient structure that I could build myself. It was an advantage that it could be set-up weather tight in just 2-3 days."

"The home is remarkably energy efficient. I use one quarter of the LPG it took to heat a 2 bedroom trailer that I used to live in. I had a soy-based foam insulation sprayed on the walls. I'm in northeast Iowa, where the winters are harsh."
